Two Christmases ago, I came back from my vacation time with family and felt so dreary. It had been so nice to be out from under it (the pressure of seeing patients quickly while still pleasing them and not missing a critical illness). Last year when I came back I felt lighter and happier, and I credit it to having just read this book and worked through a lot of the concepts. Dr. Drummond presents a lot of big picture information on the issues of burnout in physicians and encourages physicians to take a big picture look at what they really want in their career. Along the way, he also gives a lot of ideas for making some smaller changes that you can implement quickly. I still pull it out every few days and also keep working on my ideal practice.

This book is long overdue for all of us working in the trenches of medicine. Dike's words are validating and uplifting. He gives burnout a name and explains the phenomenon with great detail bringing hope and a tool kit for overcoming burnout to those suffering from it.Stop Physician Burnout is the first comprehensive, well-written, user-friendly manual I have come across. It is full of truths that make me nod my head as I read it. I have had the pleasure of working with Dike as a coaching client and have recognized the need to create my ideal practice so that I may continue my role as a caring, compassionate physician. This is a GREAT book! they need to add this to the curriculum in medical school/ residency. Not kidding!

Finally I have hope again for finding joy in my practice of medicine. This well written book has helped me understand my burnout, and even more importantly given me a path to live a more fulfilling professional and personal life. I am grateful for the author's insights. I will read this book again! I have purchased copies for my office manager and the other providers in my office. Thank you so much, Dr Drummond, for sharing your professional and personal experiences!

Dr. Drummond has found a niche in coaching physicians. This is a self-help book, which will only help if you actually do what he suggests. I will give one example: he suggested that EHR will never go away, so rather than be upset by that, decide to become good at it. Taking that advice, I put some time into learning ICD10 - another topic of course being why we have been forced to switch... I am now not distressed by putting ICD10 codes in for all my patients, despite having to use three different EHR's in my practice (which are all different, and I most particularly dislike EPIC). Yes, I am mildly annoyed, but not distressed, which is the point - burnout does not come from the things we have to do, so much as from the wasted time, the lack of control, and such. To what ever extent we can change the distress and time waste, we can more easily enjoy what medicine has to offer in terms of an amazing vocation.

I have read and re-read this book several times now. It's a treasure-trove of helpful ideas to help any of us over-wrought doctors examine our burnout and use what we find to re-imagine and reconfigure our lives and work. Most of us have had no training or preparation for the business side of medicine, and it undoes us when we walk into employment situations hoping that administrators will have our best interests at heart. Or, we have no clue how to negotiate or lead teams effectively. We think we know how to take care of patients, but as Dike correctly points out, even patient care is challenging. More so in the current climate of EMR's and increasing documenting and "value-based" criteria for payment. Then, if something happens at home to un-do our already precarious "balance," we can go under completely. Thanks to Dike for putting together such a concentrated stew of nourishment here! Because it can be somewhat overwhelming to take it all in at one sitting, I strongly recommend multiple readings and actually USING the material -- and testing out how it works in your own life.

He has more experience in dealing with abusers, their victims, and the collateral damage than basically anyone else. He communicates his ideas and facts clearly and succinctly, with the precise amount of detail necessary.I was reading this book recently and my 8yo son glanced at a couple of paragraphs over my shoulder and said, "This is about my dad, isn't it?" The style is direct enough for him to recognize what it was for, and it turned out to be incredibly helpful for both of us to recover from years of verbal abuse and manipulation. I heartily recommend reading this book as a companion volume to Why Does He Do That, also by Lundy Bancroft. They make for extremely illuminating and cathartic reading, and serve as wonderful and necessary reminders that the victims are just that -- the abusers make the conscious choices that shape the relationship in a negative way.

This is one of my first Lundy Bancroft books and I found it to be so helpful. I have a young child with an abusive partner and was looking for some guidance in how to raise him and help him get past the trauma of living with an abuser. This book put some of his behaviors in perspective, and is also reassuring and caring of what mothers are going through in this situation (rather than re-victimizing the abuse survivor as tends to happen over in over in court proceedings). It focuses as much if not more on verbal, emotional abuse as it does physical, which is helpful when so many people don't seem to get that just because someone doesn't beat you or your children doesn't mean they aren't doing immeasurable harm. The only negative I would say is I was looking for more information/guidance on what to do when the abuser is also abusing the children, or has abused the children, and they are still forced to spend time with the abusive parent. But this book focuses on the children "witnessing" abuse, not being abused themselves. I didn't take off any stars for that because the title is very clear that this book is about the abuse of the mother, and he does say that abusers who abuse their spouse typically do abuse the children too. I just wish he would have gone more into that aspect. Maybe that's in another of his books, I will certainly be reading more of them. This was a great first step for me, I'm so thankful to have found this book. Gave great advice on how to discuss the abuser and abuse with your children, without badmouthing the other parent or even directly discussing him (and therefore risking being accused of parental alienation). If you are a parent who lives with or has left an abusive partner, you need to read this book. If you are a mental health care practitioner, a divorce lawyer, a guardian ad litem, a family court judge - you need to read this book.

Thank you Mr. Bancroft for writing this book. This is incredibly helpful. I have now quoted it many times, too. If you are looking for a resource to raise your children you share with your abuser, you will find this book very helpful. You are not alone. He can help you. If you are judge, lawyer, parent coordinator, GAL... PLEASE read this book to learn how domestic abuse hurts children, even if they don't get hit. We have an epidemic in this country that needs to be stopped. This book and your other books are truly the help that I needed!! I will continue to share your work when ever I speak to groups about abuse, write about it, or need to co-parent with my abuser. Thank you.

Lundy Bancroft has such amazing insight into abusive situations. His books are so empowering to women who are trying to make sense of the chaos going on around them that is created by the abusive partner. He covers every aspect of the situation in so much detail that all of your questions are answered, you come away with a clear understanding of what is happening and what you can do to change things. This book is ideal for helping women with children in (or previously in) an abusive relationship gain clarity and insight, gather some direction and form a plan, and most of all, know where hope lies and how they might move toward it and away from the abuse. This and "Why Does He Do That" have given me more strength to leave and make necessary changes in my life, for me and my daughter, than any other single source.

Not just for mom. This book is great for family members and adult friends in the dynamics of day to day. Gets clogged at times with stories of others. Keep notes for points to share and reminders. Get some stickies to flag pages of interest. Dad doesn't hurt just mom he garners the attention of others who love mom and the kids so much more than he ever will.

Excellent book. Lundy speaks from experience and gives specific suggestions to help children heal. His writing is straightforward, reading as if he's sitting across the room. This book is a must read for parents, families, friends and professionals who work with children on any level. I highly recommend his other book, "Why Does He Do That?" either before this one or along with it, although it can stand alone, it furthers ideas and suggestions for women who have been with an abuser.

A must read for a mom who is a victim of domestic violence. Whether you want to believe it or not, your kids have been affected by the violence you have experienced. Gives helpful tools to help you help your kids heal. Awesome!

This book is a great resource to use to learn Algebra 2. I know that the high school my daughter goes to offers a very difficult Algebra 2 course, and I bought this for her so that she could get a head start over the summer. She is understanding everything very well. The book is very easy to comprehend and it is complete with practice problems and solutions. It is cheap and I would highly recommend this.

Ordered for my granddaughter--she has gone from a 'D' to a 'B' using this tool to reinforce her learning.

This is a really good book if you want to learn algebra 2. I bought this for my daughter and she really liked the layout of the book because all the concepts were explained really well and included examples. This is perfect for students who take online classes and want a supplement or are just not learning well in school.

Was not what I expected. Was not easy. I thought this would be a supplemental workbook to an Algebra 2 course. It's not. It's an entire course and not a very good one at that. Didn't use it. Waste of money.

Needed to brush up on some concepts I forgot about in school. This book really went into enough detail to figure out and learn quickly. I feel like this book made the material stick a lot better than school. If you need to learn Algebra I highly recommend this book.

Great worked problems...would like to see the work on the chapter tests which are not included. Fairly broad syllabus but not all inclusive...few are.

It explains things well and covers a lot of topics. Goes in-depth.

I was very excited to receive this book and equally disappointed when I received it. This book is rich with fluff pieces and I couldn't get past the 2nd chapter. If you want a parenting book that tells you a thousand stories about bad kids this is for you! (also was not expecting any Bible verses. This did not bother me, but it might bother some)

This book is a parenting game-changer. Certainly not every parenting method will work with every child or temperament. I can say, though, that I was a very strong willed child myself, and if my parents had used these methods, our house would have been much more peaceful, relationships improved, and I probably wouldn't have made some of the poor choices as an older teen that I did. I have personally seen these principles used with great success in children of friends and family members. I personally haven't had a chance to use this with my son, as he is still a baby, but I'm trying to be prepared!I feel like many of the negative reviews didn't thoroughly read the parts they are concerned with, or misconstrued the examples. The authors lay out general parenting principles, and then offer examples of how to implement these principles. These are EXAMPLES, people! You can certainly implement them in different manners than the authors suggest, based on your own child and what you feel is right as a parent. The authors state that the parent should only offer two choices that the parent is comfortable with. If you aren't comfortable with a certain choice (such as giving away a pet), then don't make that one of the choices you are offering, duh! The pet example seems to have many people up-in-arms, yet in this example, the parent did NOT permanently give away the pet as people state, they temporarily gave the dog to a family friend, telling the child they had 3 days to decide if the pet could come back home. Also, they did not starve the pet as everyone seems to think, they did let the child know they were abusing the pet by not feeding it. It certainly doesn't say the parent didn't or shouldn't feed the pet (without telling the child). No one is that heartless, and it doesn't serve a purpose. Also, the authors frequently list out precautions with their advice, since some individuals may misuse these techniques (as can happen with any parenting technique). They also have a section where they discuss how certain principles have been misconstructed, misprepresented and taken out of context. I feel like those who were concerned simply didn't read those additional words of wisdom. An example is that the authors discuss how the "uh oh" song is for when a child is misbehaving for the sake of misbehaving -- NOT because of a NEED. They emphasize that a need (vs a want) must be met, and I think some parents were too quick to use the "uh oh" song rather than meeting a need of the child. Also, I saw not even the slightest hint of any "attachment theory" in this book -- I hadn't even heard of this until I read some of the reviews. Now that I know what they were referring to, I can tell you there is none of this in the book.Another amazing book that I highly recommend is "Loving Our Kids on Purpose" by Danny Silk. It is quite compatible with the Love and Logic principles, but emphasizes the importance of building a relationship with our children.

First of all, the reviews complaining about how harsh the consequences are, most likely didn't read the whole book. The book does not advocate for starving dogs and locking children in rooms. There is a context to these scenarios and the reviewers are completely missing the overall point. Feel free to hate the approach but for heavens sake base that opinion on facts instead of misinformation.This book is life changing. I'm a better parent and my children are better children because of the techniques I've learned. It is gentle, loving and effective. It's all about how you as an adult react to your child's behavior.The reasons why kids misbehave and why our instinct reactions as parents are often ineffective, is in the first half of the book and then the second half is filled with common scenarios and how to handle them.The book is easy to follow and will be a reference for me many years from now. I was a very strong willed child and I wish my parents had used this approach on me.

I purchased this as it was recommended to me by a few friends.... not so happy with how much religious beliefs are pushed in it. I’m not against religion but I’d like to raise a good person for the sake of being good and kind. Just not my cup of tea. Hard to get through with all the scripture quotes. If you are not a religious person perhaps try a different avenue.

I went into this book with high hopes that it would help me reevaluate my parenting approach. But I have a difficult time relying so heavily on natural consequences when in many cases there aren't any, and in others the consequence is unacceptable. Parenting is most difficult when teaching societal norms as well as protecting your kids from situations that don't grant a second chance. I feel like this book completely overlooks the real stuff.

Hated this. More like, if you don’t parent in our exact method, your kid will be screwed. I don’t need the parent-bashing, especially when I expected a logical, loving method... additionally, there is an overriding assumption that you are a devout Christian, and bible stories to illustrate how much better the authors think their parenting style is than any lowly reader. It was really rather offensive. Thanks anyway.

I gave it 4 stars because I think the book was a little hard for me to grasp at first, but I think it was because my own upbringing that kept me from fulling understanding. However, the program is used in my child's public school which has really helped me see this play out in person. It takes practice being a consultant parent if that is not something you were ever taught, but it gets easier with time. Regardless if you are religious or not, the concepts can be applied and they still work. If you are not a religious/spiritual person, just apply the concepts of a consultant parent and you will see the difference it makes. We all want to know we have a choice. Children are no different. This will help them think for themselves and also take responsibility for their choices before they face bigger consequences later on.

This book was recommended to me by a friend who works in child therapy. It is full of useful techniques and is a great read for any parent. Parenting can be very difficult at times and reading this book really helped me open my mind and heart to consider more strategies for raising my kids. I enjoyed the layout of this book and the manner in which the authors wrote was easy to relate to. I would definitely buy this book again and I highly recommend it to any parents looking to become better at the most important job in the world.
