Beautiful story...so human...so deep...so full of fears and emotions...so full of faith.
This is a melodrama about a small family and their equally small lives. Everyone is self-absorbed. As is the book. But really, there's not much to like about any of the characters and the writing is lugubrious. Dull. I kept turning pages waiting for something to happen, for a moment that we see the characters emerge as interesting people. Didn't happen. A very disappointing read.
The book is absorbing and does have some twists. It also seems to offer some consolation at the end. But at same time the emotions described by the author become more and more detached from the real world that in the end I was very much disappointed by this book. Just much ado about nothing.
A powerful insightful book about the eternal themes of love, loss, yearnings and secret desires, children's relationships with their parents, parents relationships with their children. I finished the book and immediately reread it, so touched I was by the book and its characters
