Having hiked a few sections of the Natchez Trace, and driven the Natchez Trace Parkway, during different visits (from Seattle) to the South, now that I live here, I want to hike it – all the way through, but in segments. After reading this book, I am more convinced I need to do this!The author put a lot of thought into the organization of this book. Informative maps and photographs highlight the various sections. It covers “The Trace Top Twenty”, but goes into detail about the lesser known places to see on and along the Trace. It includes a great introduction to the Trace, How to travel the Trace – all the sights and wonders to see, and the Nuts and Bolts of travelling the Trace – how to use the mileposts, park rules, timing your trip, weather and what to wear, safety, natural dangers, and gas, food and lodging; The many ways to travel the trace – motorized, hiking, bicycling, horseback, kayak/canoe and accessibility for wheelchairs, etc.; Sightseeing by Mileposts, and the Chronology of the Trace. Additional resources are available, including an appendix with even more resources.The size of this book is just the right size to use on the trail. The pages are big enough to be able to see map features without being too big to carry in a cargo pant pocket or backpack. It is fitted with a cool water-resistant cover! Genius!I highly recommend this book if you are simply interested in the history of the Natchez Trace, or you are serious about hiking parts or all of it. It’s one of the best guide books in my library.

I bought this book to use during our recent trip to Mississippi. We spent two days driving the Natchez Trace Parkway, first picking up the parkway near Corinth and then driving to Jackson. Another day, we made the drive from Jackson down to Natchez. This book was very helpful in giving additional information about the various stops along the parkway and their significance. I would read the selections to my husband as we drove along.We also had a brochure from the National Park Service, and I liked their map much better than the maps in this book, because it was one map that went the entire length of the parkway. I didn't have to switch between maps as in this book.We were using the book in reverse order, which was a bit strange, because the parkway starts in Natchez and then ultimately ends n Nashville. We were going the opposite way!I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who will be driving the Natchez Trace Parkway, and I would definitely recommend experiencing the parkway and its diverse sights: a family graveyard, the cypress swamps, the various Indian mounds...it's a fascinating place to visit!!

Excellent guide. When I got the book and realized it went from south to north on the Trace I was concerned since we were going north to south. My concerns were quickly put to rest. Wonderful information and really makes your trip on the Trace come alive with the history. Can’t imagine driving the Natchez Trace without it.

Having just returned with my wife from a fabulous trip along the entire 444-mile-long Natchez Trace Parkway I can highly recommend this book. "Guide to the Natchez Trace Parkway" by F. Lynne Bachleda is an excellent resource both for planning and enjoying your trip. Having traveled widely in all 50 states and many countries, and having read countless guidebooks, I can say that this one is definitely better than most. It is accurate, easy to read, and chock full of information that is both practical and interesting. The descriptions of historical and natural features along the Parkway greatly enhanced our enjoyment of the trip. Even the printing and binding of the book are superior.I would recommend that those traveling the Parkway do so from South to North if possible. Following the Trace in either direction would be fun, however most travel during the heyday of the Natchez Trace was from South to North and the guidebook also follows it in that direction.A person could drive the entire Parkway in one day, but he/she would miss a lot. We took three days, and five would not have been too much time to fully explore all the many fascinating natural and historical points of interest along the way.Both the Guidebook and the Parkway itself surpassed our high expectations.

To use this as a general overview is fine; however, as a functional guidebook to hotels and other amenities, it is ineffective. I called three different accommodations. Either the numbers were wrong or they did not exist. That’s a difficult situation when you’re in themiddle of nowhere at night with no cell service. Thankfully, I eventually managed to get Hotels.com. If you want toLeave about the Natchez parkway and Trace, this is fine; but as a comprehensive guidebook it is inadequate.

Do not buy this book. Maps would be great if the mile marker were given. They are not. Only given every 25 to 50 Miles so you have to guess how far to a site

I was excited to get this series for my son and read them together. But there are too many intense and gory fight scenes that describe decapitations, pools of blood and violent attacks. Very disappointed. Should not be rated for such a young age group.

These books have my son (just turned 8) completely hooked on reading. Although he is a strong reader, he struggled a bit with the vocabulary in these books. In order to get him some momentum, we took turns reading chapters of the first book out-loud until he wanted to keep going without me. Now I get updates as to what is going on with the dragons. I like that they are challenging and I think he is learning quite a bit of new vocabulary. They have a fairly mature tone and some scenes are quite violent / graphic in nature, but he wasn't bothered by it.

My daughter (whom just turned 9 @ the end of November) and I love these books.We mistakenly bought book 10 and 11 at her school book fair, to which I told her we just cant start at book 10.So we bought these, and we are going through them every 2 weeks at the most.We just ordered the next few for her birthday and the rest for Christmas.Its fantastic because we are both into them and it makes a great bonding experience.- There is a lot of detail going on, so I also got her the graphic novel of the 1st one which helped her understand more of what was going on.-There is violence; but there is also diplomacy-There is creepy; but there is also beautyIt's just like the real world with having its ugliness and its beauty.It has empathy, strong female characters, and so much more.This author is amazing.

I read the first five books to my daughter many years ago and wanted to read them again. The public library has them but I wanted to own them. When I found Amazon had them I was thrilled! I recommend these awesome dragon tales to any and all of you who love to read about the beginning of dragon eggs to the hatching to the adventures of dragons. A rating of 5 for excellent reading.

My 12yo daughter loves these books. She has been reading books far above her reading level, wanted a break so bought these for her. She read one book every night...EASY read, she said, but she loved the story.

My 10 year old daughter LOVES this series of books!! She likes the way they are written and finds herself lost in the world if dragons.As a parent, I couldn't be happier as it's really helped her become a stronger, quicker reader. Definitely recommend them!

My son loves these books!! I should give it a one star because of the sleep disturbance it is causing him--up way too late reading with a flashlight when we think he is asleep--but who doesn't love when their kids love reading? I've even started the first one and haven't minded reading it.

The Book of Common Prayer in Large Print is wonderful for two reasons: the print is huge and very clear; and the spiral binding is very convenient for keeping the book open by itself. This is not a complete BCP, but it has all the really useful bits for saying the office at home. I love this book when I'm pressed for time, and the print size is larger than any large print book I've ever seen before.

Sorry, this book simply does not have the prayers I was expecting to get included.

HUGE print which is a plus! I'm not familiar with the BCP but this seems to have plenty of material for personal devotional time

When I ordered this product, I was hoping for an edition of the Prayer Book in larger print, since the one I have is tiny. I realized that it would omit some parts of the Prayer Book, which was okay by me. What I got, however, was a NURSING HOME edition, which I thankfully do not yet need. If I took this book to church, people in the next two pews behind me could share my book! I was actually too embarrassed to take it, because I didn't want to give the impression that I was half blind. Also, some of the parts that are important to me aren't included in this edition. I will donate it to a nursing home.

Liked the first two in series. This one meanders through a lot of details that don't really flow together. Really cumbersome to read. Story not worth the effort. I considered giving up halfway through. Stuck with it and ended up regretting that.I give it 2 stars for the story. I give it 1 star for the paging errors on the Kindle version. Every page is labeled iii of iii. Unacceptable in an $11 ebook. That this hasn't been fixed shows contempt for customer.Since I don't like the sound of the next book in the series (4) jumping back and forth between two stories I think I am done with this over priced author.

This is the third book in the Longmire series and another great story. Walt, Henry, and Dog are on the way to Philadelphia. Henry Standing Bear has been invited to give a lecture at the Academy of Fine Arts. Walt intends to visit his daughter, Cady. They barely arrive when they learn that Cady has been severely injured. From that point it is a typical Longmire story with plenty of action, learning about Cheyenne culture, and the wonderful interaction between Walt, Henry, and Vic. I can hardly wait to read the next novel.

Kindness goes unpunished isn't as good as the first two books in the Longmire series. Sheriff Longmire heads there to see his daughter and meet the man she has been dating. Most of Walt Longmire's significant supporting cast arrives with him - Henry Standing Bear to present his collection of old Indian photographs and Vic (The Terror, as nicknamed by her Philadelphia cop family we learn).Walt's daughter almost dies in an assault and the mystery is over who did it and why. The less authentic part of this book is that the Philadelphia Police give Sheriff Longmire untrammeled access to act as one of their own in pursuing not only bad guys in his daughter's case but also other bad guys Phila cops have to deal with (though as in the case of the first two books, all threads come together in the end).I enjoyed it; the actions of Sheriff Longmire just seemed less believable in a city as opposed to Wyoming. Plus, Indians and Indian culture end up playing a surprising role in an Eastern city whose Indian population long ago disappeared before the reservation age.

After reading the first Longmire book which I thought was excellent I expected a certain level of quality out of subsequent novels, this third book was a real bomb. Taking Longmire and his cast of companions out of their element and placing them in Philidelphia was not a good idea for a story line. Longmire belongs in the west, in the mountains, where he and his group solves crimes, not in taxi's running around chasing paper clues on Indian statues in a big city. All in all, a big turn off and i will be reluctant to read further Longmire novels.

Philadelphia is a far cry from Sheriff Walt Longmire’s Absaroka County in Wyoming. He, accompanied by Henry Standing Bear and his canine friend named Dog, drive there to see Walt’s daughter, Cady. who has been severely beaten and is now hospitalized. Cady has no speaking role in this book because she’s in a coma so Walt and Henry take the initiative and join forces with Philadelpia’s finest to find the person who did this to her. Walt soon comes into contact with Lena Moretti, mother of Deputy Victoria “Vic” Moretti whom Lena calls “Terror.” Also in the Moretti family of police officers are Lena’s husband and several sons. Michael is one of these sons and becomes interested in Cady, often standing a lonely vigil at her bedside. Vic, not wanting to be left out of the picture, joins Walt and Henry in Philadelphia and helps in the expanding police efforts. One of the best things about this particular Longmire adventure is watching the machinations of the Moretti family and how Vic becomes jealous of what might be going on between Walt and her mother. The action is kicked off smartly when Cady’s boyfriend, Devon Conliffe, is thrown off a bridge. It’s a complicated plot that mixes metropolitan city police work with old fashioned western sheriff sleuthing. The author provides an epilogue which helps to understand what went on, just in case you didn’t completely understand the whole story like I idid.

The Good: Well written introduction to chapter-reading for emerging readers. The author is an experienced teacher who knows well the minds of first graders in the US. She knows the level of vocabulary, the adequate difficulty and subjects that are of interest to them. These books will help readers get practice into reading more and pull them away from a screen at times.The Bad: The paper on which they are printed is sadly of the poor off-white porous quality of a mass market bestseller. Page design is also bare bones, printer simple and easy on the eye while scalable if you opt for the e-book version. The poor quality of the actual object will probably not instill a love for the book itself. They will be used, and then circulated to a library. Not a keeper.Conclusion: These series will fulfill a pragmatic purpose. They will work probably well in a school setting. They will not make bibliophiles.

This series is awesome!! It is captivating and has enhanced my 5 year old grandson's curiosity. It has taught him use his problem solving skills. I have purchased every book in the series.
