Not as detailed as the description seemed to indicate
This is a large format map book with a lot of details. Good info on Texas place names, parks, notable Texans, and of course streets and roads. My only complaint is there is no topo feature, like the excellent DeLorme mapbooks that this resembles. I suppose in someway these maps are becoming obsolete, as many people, myself included, have mapping software, gps, and even aircards on their laptops, and increasingly built into their cars and trucks.Still, it is nice to sit and browse a paper product from the living room or even a diner, looking at tomorrow's travels.
Exactly what I wanted. Good to have in the Jeep when we go off the beaten path.
Well, you can get the TX Atlas and Gazetteer and be safe enough but compliment it with this and you have all your bases covered. I used to stormchase a longgg time ago and the Roads Of books were highly recommended. Ever since then, I've always purchased one for the state I reside in.You really cannot find a better map reference for the state. Even the smallest of roads is mentioned. Texas is a darn big place - it's unwise to go toolin' around there without a good reference. This is one that you shouldn't go without.
This book is a necessity for anyone who likes driving the backroads of Texas. Every little road is covered (which you won't find on normal maps), with all sorts of interesting historical tidbits. Also, things like cattle guards across roads are noted (important if you drive a sports car and probably motorcycle too). It would be nice if it were spiral-bound, but anyway it's a great book.
Has most every little road imaginable. Has old towns listed that do not exist any more other than wide place in the road. Excellent for exploring out of the way places.Scott "the whiner" Garfinkle who moans about this being of no use in the city is correct. When I travel to large cities, I get a city map. I NEVER PLANNED ON USEING THIS AS A CITY MAP!
