Great book!
A good guide for a quick trip, never for a long visit. Some travel writers often forget that a guide is not about themselves; their selections and opinions do matter, but are not ultimate guidelines (a problem often found with Fodor's). This guide needs more place content, on sites, details, context, background so the user can choose; and not just restaurants, hotels and some shopping. Some descriptions are so basic and superficial that became caricatures. E. g. on the National Pantheon in Santo Domingo, “… (circa 1714) was once a Jesuit monastery and later a theater. The real curiosity here is the military guard, who stays as still as the statues, despite the schoolchildren who try to make him flinch;†or the decor of (not even recommended) Playa Blanca restaurant at Punta Cana getting about twice as much text than the whole interior of the capital’s cathedral, the most important historic building in the whole country.
